Preparing for the worship this week was a little more intense and stressful on my mind and my heart than other weeks. We had Dylan on drums and Jack on keys for the first time yesterday morning, and just in my own mind I found myself really stressed about how it would go and I wanted to make sure they were relaxed and just that the morning would go the way it was supposed to.
There are times as a worship leader where you find yourself thinking about keeping the band together and making sure everything sounds “right” when you are in the middle of leading that YOU forget to worship. The fact that you are on the stage leading everyone else can sometimes stray your mind and heart away from the fact that you are also worshipping and connecting with the heart of your Savior. Yesterday morning, to me, felt the complete opposite of that. I felt like I was “joining in” on worship instead of leading times. There were moments where I totally forgot where I was…and that is only a peace that I believe comes when your heart is completely fixed on focusing on Christ. And having those two new guys worshipping with us just made everything flow so smoothly that we could completely worship the God that deserves everything we have. Having two guys like Dylan and Jack, who were there to truly worship, made the worship time just flow in a way that we could go in whatever direction God would take us. God has put some serious gifts into these guys.
It was incredible at the end of “Mighty To Save” when we brought everything down and we all sang as one voice…as the church. I loved taking my in-ears out and just listening and singing and worshipping with people. There was no separation between stage and congregation…we were worshipping and praising Christ together. I love those moments. I love opening my eyes and looking down and seeing the church, hands high, worshipping and offering what little we have to our God. I believe we are just walking in the doorway of something beyond ourselves. I pray and dream and believe that one day there will be such an outpouring of ourselves in worship that every hand will be raised reaching for Christ…complete devotion and love for our Savior.
It was incredible having Kelly lead “The Stand”. When she started into the verse, there was just such a strong sense of the spirit flowing through the room. The moment couldn’t be more perfect. We slowed it down and just really focused on the words we were singing. Kelly really brought us into that moment. I just felt like she was really feeling where the spirit was taking us and she followed and we were all sucked into that sense of quieting our own minds and hearts.
God was already there Sunday morning…and I believe we met with Him in an incredible way. There is a wave that is being created that, I believe, if we ride it with Him and stop trying to fight the current…He is going to take us to a place that, honestly, we haven’t even come close to dreaming about. I’m excited for the church in general and I’m excited for KVWC and what God has been doing and what He is continuing to do…Let’s keep this spirit of worship in our hearts all week and bring it back next Sunday. Let this be worship that is carried into our week and not forgotten about when Monday comes again…Let our worship go deeper than just Sunday morning.
